My Mum (who has a job in a jewellery retailer) told me "To remove tarnish from your Gold Earrings without harsh chemicals, line the inside of a pot with aluminum foil, and add four cups of water and an eighth of a cup each of baking soda, salt and dish soap. Gently place all of your pieces into the liquid, counting them as you go. Bring the mixture up to a simmer for a couple of minutes, then turn off the burner and allow it to soak. Pour everything gently through a colander, then place the pieces on a towel to dry, counting them as you go. "

My Mama (who worked as a jeweller) explained to me "Purchasing Stud Earrings can be tricky, you need to be sure the item is clearly marked "925" or "sterling silver". Do not confuse "nickel silver" or "German silver" with sterling silver, because those metals do not contain any silver. Also, check to verify that the words "sterling silver" are written on the sales receipt, so you have some proof of what you were told you were buying.

My Ma (who works in a jewellery shop) explained "If you are looking to purchase sterling Earrings for Women online, make sure to also purchase a silver acid testing kit. Such kits are widely available online as well for under ten dollars. They provide a safe way for you to acid test the jewelry you receive to make sure of its authenticity. This way, if you are purchasing a vintage piece that may not be hallmarked, you are still able to know that you have not been scammed. "

My Mum (who worked as a jeweller) said "If you are drawn to old Dress Earrings, then do not lot tarnish deter you from adding a new piece. Doing away with even years of tarnishing takes little more than a dip in a liquid silver cleaner followed by a buff with a treated polishing cloth. You'll be amazed at the difference."

My Mum (who works as a jeweller) explained "Keep your Gold Earrings untarnished and clean. Your pieces do not look good when they are dirty. You can clean them at home using toothpaste or baking soda. Lightly scrub with the toothpaste or soak in baking soda overnight. You will wake up in the morning to clean shiny silver."

My cousin (who worked as a jeweller) explained "Clean Hoop Earrings with products from your kitchen. Earrings for Women tarnishes with time but it is easily cleaned with vinegar. Combine half a cup of white vinegar with two tablespoons of baking soda in a small bowl. Stir the mixture until it forms bubbles. Put your Pearl Earrings into the solution leaving it for two to three hours depending on how tarnished it is. Remove the jewelry and wash it under cool running water. It will look as good as new!"

My Nan (who worked in a jewellery specialist) explained "Many people have started wearing Silver Hoop Earrings and yellow gold jewelry together. In order to do this, you need to have a piece of jewelry that combines both metals. Otherwise, the look is mismatched and out of style. It's easy to get it on a hot trend by wearing a twisted bracelet containing yellow gold and silver to make your look cohesive."

My Gran (who worked in a jewellery shop) explained "Avoid fancy designer names in jewelry. We have all heard the names of famous jewelers, but is their Silver Hoop Earrings actually higher quality than other brands? It is actually a gemologist proven fact that designer jewelry isn't better quality; you are paying up to 80% more for the jewelry piece because of the designer name attached. Look at the types of jewelry from these designers that you like and find similar styles from other brands and designers that are much more affordable."
